Paragliding has its new world champions: France dominates in all ranking lists. In the Overall category the French Pierre Remy wins the gold medal who takes over this medal from his compatriot Honorin Hamard. Silver goes to British Guy Anderson and double bronze medal to Honorin Hamard (the Frenchman is ex- world champion at this point) and to Jurij Vidic (SLO). In women’s category, the former champion in charge Seiko Fukuoka Naville (FRA), who defended the title alone, remains undisputed queen. Silver for Kari Ellis, the Australian revelation of this championship, bronze for Italian Silvia Buzzi Ferraris. France gains even team gold. Silver to Slovenia and bronze to Switzerland.
With this final task MonteAvena2017, 15th FAI Paragliding World Championship, ends today. It has been for the first time that Paragliding World Championship has taken place in Italy. With 48 nations participating in the race, this championship marked the absolute record in the history of this discipline.
More than 30,000 fans followed in striking distance during the 11 days of the race the 150 riders for the title. 150 paragliding wings flying in an area of 5,000 sq. km, giving a breathtaking spectacle that comprised the skies of entire Triveneto.
An extraordinary result for our organizers who have received the plaudits and the reception not only from Italian Institutions, but also of the International Federation of the Discipline. “A result that honors our country. We have undoubtedly set the standards higher in this sport. We are delighted and proud of the work done,” said the organizers.
